Minor problem shutting down and starting up

Hello :-)

When I first got my Toshiba Satellite laptop with WinXP in September of
2002, Just like my old Win95, when I tured it on, it would boot fully by
itself without any prompting and when I selected start/shutdown, a box would
appear with three buttons labled something like Shutdown, Restart and Exit
Windows. Then I installed a game that was created by a good friend of mine
and some classmates as part of a computer science class project. Since then,
when I select start/shutdown, I get the box seen here in this screenshot with
a pulldown menu offering Shutdown, Restart and Exit Windows instead of
buttons.

That's not a problem because either way, I have to select something for it
to continue anyway, but on starting up, I also get a similar box against a
sky blue background and it waits for me to make a selection before
continuing. My friend has no idea why the game would have done that or why
it continued to be that way even after uninstalling the game. I like to be
able to start my laptop and when I come back to it, it's fully started. How
do I get it back to doing that? If it helps, I have Service Pack 2. Thanx
in advance!

Take care! Hope to hear from you soon! Wuff!

Have you tried setting the Theme back to default?

Alias

You have the Welcome Screen turned off.
You are getting the Classic log on/off box now instead of the welcome
screen.

Go to Control Panel/User Accounts
Click on "Change the way users log on or off"

Check "Use The Welcome Screen"
Click Apply

Close the window.

Sorry I took as long as I did to reply, busy weekend.

Anyway, you mean at Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Themes Tab?
The pulldown theme menu lists Windows XP, Toshiba, Windows Classic and the
rest are themes I installed. I tried all three of those, restarting each
time, but got no results. Thanx anyway for your suggestion :-)
