Minolta Scan Dual III software problems

I have the Scan Dual III and while I approve of the scanner's quality
itself, I am having enormous problems with the software.

As if scanning slides doesn't take long enough, every few scans (from
1 to 6, with 2 being the average) the software locks up just as it
seems to be writing the file (IOW near the end of the scan process
with the progress bar nearly complete). Sometimes I have to force quit
and restart which shouldn't happen but is no big deal. Usually though,
the software says it cannot detect a scanner connection and then I
have to completely restart.

This happens with the scanner set to 8bit and 2x sampling. When I
first obtained the scanner I was actually doing scans at 16bit and 8x
sampling but now I can't even do that, it locks up the software every
single time.

This has been an enormous PITA. Does anyone else have these problems
and can anyone suggest a solution?

Mac OS X.1.5
1.4 gb RAM
G4/500 PowerMac

TIA

Yep i got same problem and after numerous emails to minolta support finally
gave up, I did explain to minolta that the problem was with memory
allocation and the reply they gave was maybe it is a problem with memory
allocation, doh!. They have no sensible solution and actually have
difficulty understanding the problem ( one sugggestion was to not use 8x
sampling).
I now use vuescan and set scan memory allocation to 170mb and all works ok.
