Migrating files and settings

I upgraded from XP Home to Pro on a new system build. I have a question
about the Windows File and Settings Transfer feature. I want to transfer
most of my settings from the old system to the new one.

Do I have to install all the programs in the new system first?

Does the directory structure have to be the same? eg: on the old system
everything was on one partition (system, programs, data)... on the new
system, as of now I have the OS on a 10 gig partition (C:). My DVD/CD is D:.
So my extended partition where I will have my program and data files on is
E: So my program files on the new setup will all now be associated with the
E: drive.(instead of C: where they originally were)

Will that be a problem?

Wouldn't I be able to slave the old drive to the new one and transfer that
way? Instead of the way Windows describes (two separate machines, create and
use the Wizard disk, etc. or via networking the two machines).

I hope that makes sense. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Hi mv,

Details on what you can and can't do with the FAST wizard:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

Just to supplement - FASTW will inform you as to which, if any,
programs need to be installed onto the new computer before restoring
the FAST data.

Good luck
