Migrating a Win2K Server.

Jeff Rush

I have a Win2K server I need to migrate to a faster system. What is the
best way to migrage this system and keep the settings and information in
tact??

This is currently the PDC and handles most network services on this tiny
domain.
I do not want to reinstall Windows on a new system, is there a way to
SYSPREP this and move it or would Ghost work??

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thx,

JR

Hi Jeff,
Take a look at the following Knowledge Base article:

263532.KB.EN-US How to Perform a Disaster Recovery Restoration of Active
Directory
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;263532

Keep in mind that this procedure is *not* guaranteed to work in every case;
it's intended for disaster recovery scenarios where we have no other
recourse. But the same steps apply in your situation. The procedure will
require performing a new installation of Windows 2000 on the new hardware,
but then you'll be restoring a backup of the old server "over the top" of
the new installation.
