If we look back at MS-DOS, pretty much everything supported in 1.0 was
supported also in 6.22 (160K floppies for sure), and hardware requirements
weren't much different, were they?

Understood -- I have tended to prefer separating a firewall from my
servers, and WinProxy (for small business clients ) has been pretty
easy to work with.

I will have to believe you on that as I skipped the entire
8 and 16 bit era of PCs, doing IBM mainframes and Unix.
Of course, my comments were aiming at the NT family
and its generations.
