Microsoft Wrod file in Vista

I just bought a new computer that has Vista on it and I need to open a
Microsoft Word file. Is there another program compatible with Word that I
can open this file in? I tried Word Pad and Note Pad and neither worked.

Connie, if the file has the standard .DOC file extension then Word Pad
should open it. You can also download Microsoft Word Viewer 2003 (this is
free) :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en

This allows users who do not have Microsoft Word to view Word based
document. I'm not sure whether it will read word documents that have been
written using the latest version of Word (word 2007). You can soon tell if
it has been written in the latest version of word because the deafult file
extension is DOCX
