Microsoft Word Normal Template

Guest

I have a Normal.dot file in Application Data/Microsoft/Office/Templates.
However, every time I close Word, it says "The Normal File is Not Available"!!

Being as this file exists, can be edited, saved, closed etc, why does this
error occur every time I exit the program.

I have tried to create a new copy of the template several times, but this
results in the same response each time.

Can you advise a solution or is there a new patch?

You should not have a normal.dot in that folder if you have a recent version
of Word. When within Word, use Tools > Options > File Locations to set your
user templates folder. It is normally something like:

c:\Documents & Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

That is, there is a separate normal.dot for each user logged into a
computer. The folder you are trying to use is a system folder and likely
protected in some way.

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see
