stop a template from opening as a blank document

I have MS2007 and somehow one of my documents ended up being saved as a
template called "Normal". Now every time I open word or select a new blank
document, it pulls up "Normal". I tried going to templates and deleting it,
but it promps me saying that the file is in use by Microsoft Word and cannot
be deleted. I want to delete this template!

Exit Word and then you can delete the Normal template (the full file name is
normal.dot for Word 97-2003 and normal.dotm for Word 2007). Note, however,
that it will be safer to rename it. As you restart Word, a new fresh copy
with the factory default settings will be created.
