Yes, yes, I know...it's an ANCIENT program :o)

It has been working fine up until just the other day.
Now I'm getting an error message when I try to bring it
up.

The first thing that happens is it gives me a file error
that says "Cannot find SHELL.DLL"

When I click on "Close", I get another message that
says "Can't run 16-bit Windows program" as the header,
and the message says "Cannot find file
C:\WINWORD\WINWORD.EXE (or one of its components). Check
to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all
required libraries are available."

When I do a system restore to a much earlier date, it
will usually allow me to get into the program with no
problems.

I also tried to reinstall the program, and that didn't
correct the problem at all.

If anyone has ANY suggestions - I'd really appreciate
it. I am a stay-at-home, Homeschooling Mom and I really
can't afford to pay $200 for a word processing package
right now.

Thanks.

You can go here to download, for free, an Office application. It is not on
par with Microsoft office but, for the price, it is hard to beat!

Nothing wrong with Word 2.

You have a virus of some sort possibly coolwebsearch. There's nothing wrong with word. Some virus is deleting the file. There is a second copy in system folder, copy it to the system32. But it will probably get deleted again till you clean your computer.
