Is there a Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade that upgrades from
Windows 2000 Professional? If not, why not?

Thanks.

I do not believe there's an upgrade.
You have to install WinXP as as a new OS.
As to why...Bill didn't become the richest man in the world by not being a
good biz guy!

The answer is "no". As for why not, you'd have to ask the Marketing
people at Microsoft I suppose. Probably because anyone using Win2k Pro
wouldn't want to upgrade to XP Home. The few people who were using
Win2k Pro on home machines probably "received" that operating system
from a "friend" or got the machine from work. Win2k Pro wasn't a
natural progression from Win98/ME.

No.

Because Microsoft decided that going from anything Professional to anythng
Home is a downgrade, and decided not to offer it.

No, only to Pro. Why should there be? In any event the why is probably
not every useful at this juncture.

Because ALL MS OS's are BEST installed to a fresh Hard Drive for BEST

That's irrelevant to his question about why that particular upgrade path
isn't supported.

Besides, I disagree with that statement. Although many people will tell you
that formatting and installing cleanly is the best way to go, I disagree.
Unlike with previous versions of Windows, an upgrade to XP replaces almost
everything, and usually works very well.

My recommendation is to at least try the upgrade, since it's much easier
than a clean installation. You can always change your mind and reinstall
cleanly if problems develop.

However, don't assume that doing an upgrade relieves you of the need to
backup your data, etc. before beginning. Before starting to upgrade, it's
always prudent to recognize that things like a sudden power loss can occur
in the middle of it and cause the loss of everything. For that reason you
should make sure you have backups and anything else you need to reinstall if
the worst happens.

There are a probably a few domain and security issues that would have to
be sorted out in the process.
