Maurice , thanks for all your help. I just decided to go to the Windows
Update site to download and install...all is ok now.

Initially, I dont think the download completed through "Automatic Updates"
because when I went to the Windows Update site and downloaded the update, the
notification icon appeared at the bottom of my screen telling me that new
updates were ready to be installed.

BTW, I was aware of version 2 of Windows Installer 3.1
