Microsoft USB Wheel Mouse Optical

I recently have been having problems with my mouse. In
the past 2 days it sometimes just "shuts off" if you will
without the least bit of provocation. To get it to start
up again I unplug it from the USB port and then put it in
again which triggers it to work again. This might happen
maybe 10-15 times a day and you can probably see why this
is frustrating. Its a Microsoft USB Wheel Mouse Optical
(so says the hardware which its installed under) I
haven't had these problems before and the mouse is only
about 7 months old. I downloaded new drivers for it just
like 10 min ago (5.0 update) and that didn't change
anything so now I hope someone here can help me.

Have you recently added another device to the USB ports? I've seen this
happen when there isn't enough wattage in the PSU to keep all USB ports
working (each takes a certain amount of power to make them work).

You might also want to look in the Device Manager, go to USB Controllers and
under each USB Root Hub in turn, ensure that in the Power Management
section, the PC isn't set to turn off power to each USB port to save power.

I have the same mouse and I had the same problem. I found
that when I pushed the cord at the part where it goes into
the mouse just a little bit until you see it start working
this stops the problem. I had to push mine in just enough
to make it work 3 seperate times before it quit turning
off on me. Seems there is a loose connection inside the
mouse but mine works fine now. Drove me crazy for a while.
I'd bang it down and it would work for a while until I
finally I tried the push in method. LOL
