Microsoft Update Duplicating Updates

In the last few days Microsoft Update has several times offered me updates
that have already been installed. I have two PC's connected independently to
the Internet and both have received these duplicate notifications.

Today I was offered Internet Explorer 7 and .Netframework 1.1 both of which
are installed and seem to be running correctly.

is there a reason, or cure, for this behaviour?

This will stop the IE7 install:

The best thing you can do is to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com,
click the CUSTOM button, expand the two that are giving you the problem &
tick don't notify again.

Alternatively, post to:

microsoft.public.windowsupdate

Thanks for the help. Looking at the history Microsoft Update was attempting
to install an up to DotNetFramework 1.1 which was already installed, even
though version 3 is installed.
I have ticked the don't notify again as you suggest.

Is there anyway of cleaning up the update history?

The history is just that history and has no effect on anything else.

..Net Framework are not superseded by the next version.
If you want full functionality, you need them all.

I still do not understand why Windows Update is trying to install today an
upgrade that it had already installed two days ago?.

I have had a closer look at the history and what seems to have happened is
that
yesterday MSU installed Net Framework version 1.1 and today it tried and
failed to install Net Framework !.1 Service Pack 1
