Microsoft set to respond to Google OS next Monday?

Ubuntu maybe a full operating system but your definition and my definition
of full are different.

Yeah, Windows needs anti malware apps, WPA, WGA. What is full about
Windows that isn't full with Ubuntu?
Ubuntu maybe a complete OS but it doesn't compete with Microsoft. If you
think it does you need your head examined.

It's already drawing market share, what will 10 million users and growing.

You're more than welcome to visit the Portneuf District Library, for one
- there are a multitude of other examples.

I'm not disputing your public library or your personal experiences. I'm just
telling you about my experiences. NOT ONCE have I ever seen Linux in use in
a personal computer in my fairly normal day to day life. Not in my library,
not in the homes of my friends, not at the coffee shop, not at the airport
or on flights, not in the retail stores I go to, not in the computer
oriented stores small and large I go to, not in emails from my friends and
acquaintances. The ONLY place I ever hear about Linux is on newsgroups and
tech blogs.

I would however be curious about your "multitude" of examples because I just
don't see a multitude of anything when it comes to Linux. Certainly the
adoption figures I see bantered about the internet do not support use of the
word multitude. Your relatively small and geographically isolated community
in Idaho may indeed have a bigger adoption rate for linux for whatever
reasons but I sure don't see that in many other places.

Read the first post, and then look at the pic in the link in that post.

Well there you go, another internet specific unix forum with a personal
photo link. Once again, I'll say I've never seen much about Linux anywhere
except for tech blogs.

With Windows and Mac one doesn't have to "read the first post and then look
at the pic in the link in that post" to find Windows and Mac.

You asked who uses Linux in the real world, I provided a link showing a
company that does, in the real world.
One company = a "whole host of 'non-geeks'"?
What company is that? How do we know they're not geeks?
I bet you could find a few more, but reality is about 95% of IBM-PC machines
run a MS OS.
Most companies now are running XP Pro.

Seems to be from 2003, so maybe not relevant.

From the site you linked to:
"As of 2008-03-23, there are 717 entries in this list."

Although it's old (472 days, a bit over a year and a quarter), it's not
2003 :)

No, actually I said that I haven't seen it in MY "real" world. I only see it
on the internet in tech links like the one you provided. One would expect to
see links like that on a "fixunix" web site under ubuntu. I'm not disputing
your link I'm just saying it's not very prevalent and in my day to day,
going about my non tech business real life it just doesn't seem to exist.

But that's one of the great things about it. You probably use linux
several times a day and aren't even aware. It's in a large number of
devices and machines today as an embedded OS. Very transparent. And it
just works.

Neither do you

I go out every single day, liar. Google's new operating system was on
the FRONT PAGE of every newspaper in Spain, along with reports about it
on all the Spanish TV news. Of course, it was on all the US TV stations
as well. Time for you to crank up your lying FUD machine, what with you
being a lying low life MS shill and all.

Geez....how the hell did I come up with 2003 ?!?!?!?!

I think you're used to a different order of fields in the date. There is
that 03 in the middle and the 3 at the end (yeah, there's a 2 there too).

I do that sort of thing a lot, like the headline says "President rejects
new proposal" and at first I see it as "President rejects new
prostitute"...

Oh well, it keeps me laughing...at myself.

Do you think that the President would reject a new prostitute?

+Bob+

and magazine racks in Germany where I often visit have several glossy
Linux mags and some glossy os-agnostic rags which do Linux stories.

When your glossy mags contain Linux, you really need to rush to the
hospital and get a geek reduction performed ASAP.

I have heard but never tried/tested linux/ubuntu. What is the difference?
