Microsoft sells 20 million Vista licenses - beats Windows XP

R

Richard Urban

Sorry to burst the bubble of all those trolls who post here but Vista seems
to be doing just fine.

Considering that about 40% of the posts here are from the trolls themselves,
it proves just how good Vista really is.

But they don't tell you that if you have a voucher for a free upgrade, they
will not give it to you unless you have a Visa or MasterCard. I am still
trying to figure out why Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom has declared all
other forms of money to not be legal tender in this case.

Not going to Nay say, per se. But I still think it's unfair to use those
figures, when people are forced feed Vista on new PCs. And what if they are
selling more PCs now then they were when XP was first released ? It just
skews the numbers and makes Vista look more wonderful then it might really
be. And of course, there is no real way of knowing if 15 million of those 20
million wish they could have XP back.

Come on Richard, use your contacts to get the numbers for box copies sold
outside of new PC sales.

But at the same time, it's been 5 years since XP came out, so I'm sure
people are looking for something new anyways. Just glad there isn't 20
million people posting here

I lost your logic. What proves how good Vista really is? Trolls? Sales?

Vista may well be doing fine, but that article is a little misleading:
"Microsoft claims Windows Vista is off to a fast start, having sold more
than 20 million copies since its January 30 consumer release.
By comparison, in its first two months, Windows XP sold 17 million copies,
Microsoft said."

Then there's this:
"However, Microsoft's figures include not only boxed copy sales and those
included on new PCs, but also people who bought Windows XP during the
holiday season and have applied for their free Vista upgrade since the
mainstream launch of Vista."

That adds another two+ months to the equation, and would include most/many
of the PCs sold during this past holiday season. Without stating the number
of people who "applied" for Express Upgrades the "first two months" claim is
a bit odd.

It's doing fine, because it's sold preinstalled in Dell computers and most people don't know how to build computers themselves, so
they just go buy a complete pc, where vista is already installed. As you said, most people are trolls when it comes to computers.

Vista is indeed a very good OS, because it's more stable than any previous windows system, it never crashes. WinXP crashes at least
10 times per month for no obvious reason. But Vista is not user-friendly at all. It's less intuitive and less customizable than
WinXP

What it doesn't say, and I don't know, is whether or not the 17 million XP
copies includes free upgrades. MS did a similar free upgrade to XP when it
came out as it did with Vista. If the 17M XP copies includes those, then it
is a closer comparison. I would, though, like a breakdown on the numbers.
How many are free upgrades, how many are new PC copies, how many are OEM
copies sold with something other than a PC, and how many are retail? That
level of breakdown would make the picture clearer as to how well Vista is
doing compared to XP.

Still, MS should be pleased considering the post holiday release of Vista.

Naysayer Richard should be appointed the king of Urban legends...

First of all the people who post here and think vista is horrid is the
majority not 40%

Second, that trash you posted is scewing reality like a parabolic mirror...

3rd) You are not counting all the people that take vista back for XP,
or

4th) those who are very unhappy with vista and cant do anything about it
because their pc came with vista, or they have installed it already and are
horrified...

5th) You are also not counting the people who have got vista,
but formatted it and installed linux or pirated XP because
Vista stinks....

6th) Or the people that have Vista, leave it on, but dual boot with XP or
linux
and boot to vista only to laugh at microsofts horrible os.

7th) Or those who use vmware or virtual pc just to get some apps running....
actually spending more time on the virtual pc than on vista itself!

YOU ARE A NAYSAYER EXTRODINAIR.....

Richard? Are you working for MS and looking somehow to
crawl yourself to a promotion?

Lies wont get you anywhere.. but you are funny...

XP never crashed on me Sir...

I will use the excuse Vista lovers use all the time when something goes
wrong on vista:

Its either YOUR fault,
a third party application, or
a driver...

BUT ITS NEVER EVER WINDOWS FAULT

SO THERE! :)

C. Not all Windows Vista features will be available for use on all Windows
Vista Capable PCs. All Windows Vista Capable PCs upgraded to Windows Vista
will be able to run the core experiences of Windows Vista, such as
innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and
reliability. Some features-such as the new Windows Aero user
interface-available in certain editions of Windows Vista require advanced or
additional hardware.

I think their counting methods are not what most would expect..

That it is moving faster than XP may be true because a lot of people were
gun-shy towards XP after Windows 2000 had so many issues for people
migrating from Win98.

I'm guessing you didn't read the first sentence:

"Microsoft claims Windows Vista is off to a fast start, having sold more
than 20 million copies since its January 30 consumer release."

see the first two words? "Microsoft claims..."

that's reason enough right there to not give it ANY weight whatsoever.
sorry if this goes against your agenda here...

see quote below, then decide...

right, Microsoft Marketing at work, plain & simple. there's no mystery here.
they can cook the numbers to tell the masses whatever they want, and the
cheerleaders like Dick just lap it up and regurgitate it

Opps, someone forgot to post this info

Sales of boxed Vista copies down over XP
http://news.com.com/Sales+of+boxed+Vista+copies+down+over+XP/2100-1016_3-6159700.html?tag=st.ref.goo

PC sales were down in 2001, despite XP's release
"In the fourth quarter, PC shipments fell 6.7 percent from the period in
2000:"
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F02E7DA1F38F93BA25752C0A9649C8B63

Another thing, that's kinda overlooked, is Vista came out with-in 2 years of
windows 2000. So those that already jumped on 2000 may have skipped over XP,
at least the first year or so. If Vienna actually ships in 2009, I expect
it's sales to be lower than Vista and XP as well. PC people aren't going to
buy a new OS every 2 years.

Again, isn't the end of the world for Vista, I just think you have to do an
Apples to Apples comparison. Even then, it's really hard to know absolutely
unless we polled all 20 million people to find out how happy they are.

No one is forced to buy Vista. You can still buy XP and you can certainly
visit an iStore.
Come on Richard, use your contacts to get the numbers for box copies sold

Those figures don't mater. The sales numbers are being compared to XP which
also includes OEM and retail.

They also include the Win98/2000 to XP upgrades with new sales as well.

a third party application, or
Yup. Installing apps not designed for Vista are risky.
a driver...

This is usually the problem. Very good!

BUT ITS NEVER EVER WINDOWS FAULT

That's a lie! Who told you that? Answer: NO ONE! Vista has issues and
when those issues are crossed it's made clear.

J

Justin

You find the most ignorant videos.

That video is showing a BETA of Vista. It's 100% invalid and not relevant
in any way.

However, even if RTM were to BSoD, so what? Odds are it would be a driver
problem as with most XP BSoDs.

Wow, did you think that up all on your own? You mean to tell me that when
people have a problem with an OS they go to forums and/or NGs for help?
Wow, that's great! So if I find a Linux NG and see what 90%+ of the people
on there are having problems then Linux is a POS? Same with OSX?

Second, that trash you posted is scewing reality like a parabolic
mirror...

No it's not.

3rd) You are not counting all the people that take vista back for XP,

Most of those people did not activate their machine. Either way, think of
all the people that took XP back. So your point is moot.

4th) those who are very unhappy with vista and cant do anything about it
because their pc came with vista, or they have installed it already and
are
horrified...

Horrified? Idiot.

5th) You are also not counting the people who have got vista,

Vista stinks....
Um...no.

6th) Or the people that have Vista, leave it on, but dual boot with XP or
linux
and boot to vista only to laugh at microsofts horrible os.

No one is as pathetic as you. So...no.
7th) Or those who use vmware or virtual pc just to get some apps
running....
actually spending more time on the virtual pc than on vista itself!

Oh, you mean like MOST people did with OSX and OS9? Yeah, so?
