Microsoft slashes Vista price in China

Microsoft has more than halved the retail price of its Vista operating
system in China.

The Home Basic edition dropped from $201 (1,521 yuan) to $66, and the
Home Premium package dropped from $238 to $118. The move was effective
as of Wednesday.

The price cut is the company's latest effort to tackle the rampant
software piracy in China, according to The Wall Street Journal. The
theory is that if legitimate software costs less, people will be less
likely to turn to pirated versions.

===================
the message is clear.
if more people were pirating Vista elsewhere, we'd be paying half
price too.
LOL

Wow! I can sleep tonight knowing the Chineese can get Vista for $66. They
will still pirate it!

Wow, people have been telling MS that for years. So when are they going
to lower the 800 + US Dollars they charge for Vista Ultimate in Spain.
Talk about a price spread for the pirates ...

I was in Vietnam a few months ago and you could buy all vista editons for
$2. Hmmm $118 or $2....what to do?

They are keeping the price high in Spain so you will have to continue using
Ubuntu :)

It is all about making MORE money.

We, in the Western world, are the ones that put Microsoft where they are
today by buying their producst over the years.

And in return, Billy Boy just screws us for more and more money.

Nice way to "thank" your loyal customers Bill.
How about a discount for us?
I won't hold my breath waiting for it.
And Microsoft is guilty of Price Gouging, a Crime in my country.

I can buy an OEM generic of Vista if I wanted to buy it and it would
cost me 217 US Dollars but I have a friend who is a system builder and
he gets it wholesale. Most people will have to buy retail and pay over
800 US Dollars or buy a cracked copy. OR, get Ubuntu for free.

Do you see how MS is pushing people to do one of the following:

Stay with XP

Buy a cracked copy of Vista for cheap

Use Ubuntu on all their machines.

No, not at all!
We only see incompetent losers like you desperately pushing your junk
linux os in a vain attempt to stop the landslide move to Vista.
Guess what, all statistical data says you're fighting a losing battle
and have been ever since Vista went RTM.

Hey Frank, can you possibly crawl any further up Microsoft's ass?

I get my Windows OS for free. I get my Microsoft development suite for
free. I get lots of money to write software. The best part of the equation
is that I don't EVER have to look at Ubuntu!
Just FYI

Bully for you. So what are you going to do when Microsoft ditches
Windows and concentrates on the XBox and table top restaurant computers?

what about the argument that pirated software is a vector for
hackerware? Paying for legit software is a small price to pay for a
secure PC. Do people in China do their banking and use credit cards
on line? It is nuts to use your credit card on a PC running free
software.

$66 is still a lot more then a dollar in China. I doubt this will do
anything to stop piracy in China.

Why so. If you don't tell MS by updating etc.

But Banking has nothing whatsoever to do with MS.

Actually, the crack versions are of a higher quality as they do not
continually call Bill Gates in the background or crash when you upgrade your
machine.

Jealousy is one of the worst emotions Mick. If you had had half the insight
and brains of Bill you would have been trying hard to climb above him now.
