Microsoft Paint - How can I get it back, please?

I realise that if I just popped my Recovery disk into my drive, I could
install a new version of Windows XP Home edition.
That is where my problem really starts. Paint isn't in my start-up list
when I get to Accessories.
I have tried to install it in Windows Components, but I can't because last
year, a Technician installed a newer version of Windows XP, and downloaded
Service pack 2 at the same time, and returned a new clean PC. The CD that I
have of Service pack 2 is a beta, and therefore, not 100% reliable, and my
recovery disk won't run, and gives me a warning that the version currently
installed is newere that the CD file.
Everything else is there in Accessories... please help, as I'm not sure what
my options are now.

I just want Paint back......

Your Paint program is located at: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe . Type
that when you establish your desktop shortcut rather than "%systemroot% and
so forth. I would recommend you copy and paste it exactly as I have it. Hope
it resolves your problem.

Hi

Again, the first method asked me for the Service Pack 2 CD.
I decided to take a chance and insert my Beta Windows XP service Pack 2 CD.
It attempted to get files D:\i386 from the CD, but then decided that it
couldn't do this. (everytime I clicked "OK", i got the error "CLUNK" sound.)

I have installed Windows XP several times before, but I have never managed
to install an operating system without the Manufacturer's recovery disk.
Therefore, I have absolutely no idea at all, which are the "appropriate
folders" to move these executable files to.
Also, the first two files are OK so far, but the third link seems to be the
wrong link. Sorry.
The others are sitting on my desktop, waiting for confirmation.

Sorry to be such a bother!!!

First give it a try:

1. Open Windows Comonents through Add / Remove Programs
2. Click Accessories and Utilities and click Details button.
3. Uncheck Accessories, click Ok and then click Next to uninstall all the
Accessories program properly.
4. Now, again open the Windows Components and make a check mark
Accessories
and finish the wizard. As I already told you that it will may not ask you
for
any CD.

If any error popup or windows do ask you for Windows XP CD then let us
know
the exact error message.

Secondly, download the Paint, Calculator and Wordpad from the following
link
and paste them to appropriate folders.

1. Wordpad - "\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"
http://rapidshare.com/files/22886962/wordpad.exe

2. Calculator - %SystemRoot%\system32\calc.exe [Systemroot = your windows
folder]
http://rapidshare.com/files/22887289/calc.exe

3. Paint Brush - %SystemRoot%\system32\mspaint.exe
http://rapidshare.com/files/22887289/calc.exe

Hope this help, let us know!

Hi

Thanks for such a quick response. I appreciate it!

Basically, I'm afraid that it hasn't worked.
I got the expected error messages. I tried the shortcut method, but
mspiant.exe isn't available.
Like I originally thought "it's gone, somehow".
I noticed another thread that suggested that this zip file should work,
and
now I have PAINT in the drop-down list from Accessories, but there is no
program there.
Actually, now I look again, WordPad and Calculator also have the same
icon.
White box with blue top (this means that the appication isn't installed,
I
think?)

Sorry for the 3rd wrong link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/22887546/mspaint.exe

You should place all executables to the following folders:

1. MSPAINT.EXE to your Windows\System32 folder.
2. WORDPAD.EXE to your "\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories"
3. CALC.EXE to your Windows\system32 folder.

Don't place them directly to your Desktop. Place them in appropriate folders
and then create the shortcuts for the same.

Hope this help, let us know!
