I use Office 2000's version of Word.

Somehow I turned on "special characters," "diacritics" or "revision_marks."
They appear throughout the text in all my Word docs, now. They are the
paragraph symbol, the space symbol (.) between words, etc.

How do I turn them off?

Press CTRL SHIFT * (number 8) shortcut show/hide
Press Paragraph mark (Pilcrow) on Menus to show/hide
