Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working

Hello,

I just purchased a new computer with Windows 7 Premium Home (64) installed.
I am working on moving my data, etc. over from the XP computer to my new
computer.

I have installed Office 2003 on the new computer and all programs operate
fine with exception to Outlook 2003.

When I first started up Outlook 2003, it wanted to go through email setup,
etc. I cancelled out of the setup because I was going to restore my .pst
files from a backup that I made. I can not run my Outlook backup software
(Outback6) to restore the files because it needs Outlook 2003 configured
first.

So, I tried to start up Outlook 2003 again in order to set it up only to
find out now that I am getting the message "Microsoft Office Outlook has
stopped working". I figured there was a corrupt file or something since I
cancelled the setup the first time. Every time I get this message, it closes
the application. I have tried to startup in Safe Mode, Office Detect and
Repair, Remove and Reinstall, etc....I still get the same message every time
I try to start up Outlook 2003.

Is there a patch that I am needing? How can I repair this? It is important
that I get this functioning ASAP as I am sure that my emails are piling up.

Thank you very much for any input.

Regards,
Mike

Creat a new Mail Profile via Control Panel
(In Vista 64 bit, classic View 32bt control panel - cannot answer for Win7)

PS assuming other PC is functioning its only neccessary to copy the data
files (pst) to eg Documents folder on new PC
to reconnect your data - no backup software required

The mail applet is available directly in Control Panel in the User Accounts
and Family Safety section.
There is no separate 32-bit section anymore.

Very very frusterated here!

I have spent hours and hours on this...I have tried to create new user
profiles so tht it would run me through a new Outlook configuration...I did
this...I add an email account and then get the same message "Microsoft Office
Outlook has stopped working"....I am not sure how to create a new mail
profile...I assume that by creating a new user profile, this has caused me to
create a new mail profile for this new user....NO LUCK!Arrrrrrrr...

I down loaded all of the updates for Windows 7 and installed them...no
luck...I am now download all of the updates for Office 2003 to see if they
help...

From all of the research that I have done, I appear not to be the only one
having this problem or a similar one. Is this a bug with Outlook 2003? Or a
bug with the new Windows 7 platform? Also, this computer came installed with
a 64 Bit OS....Is Office 2003 OK on a 64 bit system? Everything else in
Office 2003 appears to run fine...just Outlook that I am having problems
with.....

Any more ideas or patches, etc?? I am sure I have emails stacking up in my
Inbox....Arrrrrr.....

Thanks for any advice/help!

Hi',

Check your pst file and make sure it isn't broken or too big.You can
try a tool called Advanced Outlook Repair. You can download a free
demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe . I think it is a
useful repair tool for you. It is easy to recover your PST file by
using its wizard. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders
and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST
files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/

I found that it was an add in causing the problem.

After installing Office XP on windows 7 professional, we would get the error
message "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working" and outlook would close.

To sort this out I changed the compatibility of outlook to run as Windows XP
service pack 2. You then open outlook and it closes with the same error.
But when you open it a 2nd time, you get a message explaining that an add-in
is causing the problem. After disabling it, outlook will work fine.

If your problem is not quite the same and you can open outlook. I would
suggest you go to tools, options, other, advanced options, add-in manager and
disable all add-ins. (This is in Office XP, may be different for other
versions).
