I purchased a new computer that included the trial version of Office 2003. I
did not install the 97 version but installed the backed up folders that
included several word documents.
I tried to email a document but the receiving end could not open the file. I
had no problem with the previous version when I included word files in my
emails.
My question is, if I decide to uninstall the trial version 2003 and install
my older 97 version will I be able to still see the files properly? Have they
been converted to the new version when I opened the files? How can I tell,
and to be honest I do not wish to loose any of the files I had due to
reverting to the older version.

I would suggest reposting your question in a newsgroup which supports
Word. This newsgroup is for a different program, the Office Pro
database software Microsoft Access. Scroll down the list of subjects
on the (admittedly confusing!) webpage and find one for Word.

Opening an Access97 database in Access2003 will give you a warning
that you cannot make changes unless you convert. You can still convert
back even if you do (provided you don't add anything new which didn't
exist in 97).
