A security program deactivated and de-registered the
Microsoft Java VM on my Windows XP Prof installation. Is
there a way to re-install and re-register the VM? Thanks.

you can download the "new" java from http://java.sun.com/

http://www.entsol.com/html/the_microsoft_jvm.html
or
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php

Then go immediately to WindowsUpdate to get the required
patches:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-
011.mspx

We have three very irritating applications that demand
specifically the MSJavaVM. What makes this so irritating
is that no java of any kind is needed for any of them.
There's just some errant code embedded in the executables
that is the fault of the programming language that
compiled them.
I have to install Sun and MS Java. Then in IE, I have to
turn off the Sun Java and leave MS Java on. This is the
only thing that will keep the errors from halting my
user's processes.

Go here: http://java.com/en/index.jsp for Sun's latest Java Virtual Machine
[JVM]. Click at the top righthand side for the download.
