Whenever I try to install new software I get an error that
says the installer failed. In one case the error
mentioned msiexec.exe. When I search for this file it is
not anywhere on my drive. It is possible I deleted this
when I was removing files after a website pop-up started
screwing with my computer. I went to task manager and
stopped all applications and then did a search for files
dated that day in the last 1/2 hour. I may have
accidently added this file to the list I deleted.

I tried to reinstall win 2K from my CD (Service Pack 2)
and could not because I am runnning Service Pack 4. I did
not back up the files when I updated to Service Pack 4.

Does anyone have a suggestion on an easy fix here. I
am "fairly" literate but not nearly an expert. Please e-
mail me to start a dialog.

Thanks! Doug

Hi

Try the methods one by one outlined here to fix Windows Installer problems in
Win2k and NT4:

PRB: Incorrect Default DCOM Settings Cause Windows Installer to Stop Responding

After running through the four points above, also try this from Start/Run:

msiexec /regserver

If that doesn't solve your problem, and you have MSI 2.0 installed, downgrade
to version 1.1 (somewhat messy), and then install MSI 2.0 again:

Downgrading Windows Installer (Win2k):

Thanks! I also searched through the posts in this section
and found other solutions. I got it working. First time
I used this site. I 'll be back!!!
