Microsoft Fax problem with modem hanging up prematurely

I am running Windows XP Pro with Microsoft fax installed. My modem is a
Broadxent DSI V.92 PCI DI3631.

Whenever I start to send a fax, I hear the dial tone on the modem speaker
for one second and then the modem hangs up; no digits were dialed at all.
Fax Monitor displays "There is no answer". After all retries it finally
gives up with "The attempt to send the fax failed".

I've removed the device, reinstalled, updated the driver and still the same
thing.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Has anyone any suggestions on
what to do next?

Thanks

Dale

When you say no digits were dialed at all i suspect that there is not dial
tone.
You can open hyperterminal and try to dial some number and check if it is
dialing.
Start menu->All Programs -> Accessories->Communication->Hyperterminal.

If you cannot dial then there are solutions at the Broadexnt site. The
following link could be helpful to you.
http://www.broadxent.com/support/support_downloads.asp

This link takes you to troubleshooting section of these modems. I found some
solutions to "No Dial tone" in the knowledge base.
This could be of help. Try out and let us know.

Shyama,

I am getting a dial tone through the speaker, but at no time do I hear the
touch tone sound of a digit being dialed. I tried your suggestion of dialing
through Hyperterminal and it worked fine; heard the dial tone, heard the
digits being dialed, then the ringing and the call being answered. So
perhaps the problem is somewhere in the Microsoft Fax configuration? I've
checked all of the areas that I know of and nothing seems to be irregular.

The Broadxent web site you provided does have a more up-to-date driver for
the modem. I suppose I can try that, but based on the results of the above
mentioned test, it doesn't seem to be in the modem.

Thanks for your help!

Did you check the phone and modem options in control panel? Can you check if
pulse dialing is enabled by any chance? If so change the dialing options to
Tone Dialing.
