Microsoft downloads are not installing

S

Steve

Just bought a new computer, and finished setting up
Windows XP, AOL, Office 2003, Norton Antivirus.

Went to Microsoft's Update Download site, which scanned
my new computer and listed 19 critical updates (16.1 MB).

Accepted all of them, began the download process. Took
about an hour. The "progress" bar reached 100%, but
installation never started.

Waited about 20 minutes, with no progress on the
installation bar, so cancelled out.

Tried again, this time removing all but one update from
the list of 19. This time, "download" was almost
instantaneous (I assume it's because it was already
downloaded to my computer the first time), but still
installation never began

Any suggestions on how to get installation to start?

Steve,

Do updates just a few at a time. Reboot. Run for awhile to make sure
things are ok, then update some more. That way if a particular update
causes a problem you can more easily back track.
