-----Original Message-----
I am using the MSAS (Microsoft AntiSpyware). Along with
it I have LavaSoft's Adware SE installed, which needs to
run manually.
Even though MSAS has just run a scan, and is still
running in the background; Running of the Adware still
brings out quite a few of the spyware.
Is it that MSAS is less effective or there is some other
reason?
.

What does Ad-Aware find that MSAS doesn't?
If it is just cookies don't worry about it,MSAS does not
scan for these if it is something else please post it.

Thats because you are not running it in safe mode. Also try and send in some
Spyware reports, Tools > Spyware Report.

I have not run it in safe mode. I will see if it makes any difference.

BTW I looked in Help and I could not see any recommendation concerning
safe mode. Where are you getting this information from?

I know it is good practice to run programmes in safe mode if you are
trying to clean an infected machine but I have not seen it suggested
for routine checks before. I always run Adaware in normal mode.

This is beta software, which means, don't trust the documentation, its not
finalized, you can't even trust the information in Help about Error codes.

Whether you run a programme in normal mode, safe mode or any other mode
is fairly basic to running a programme! Still I suppose so is installing
and updating where there seem to be so many problems with beta 1 <g>.

Hi Gerry,

Running from Safe Mode is considered a 'best practice' by most when you are
sweeping junk out of a machine. I use it all the time.

Safe mode helps in cleaning both viruses - trojans specifically, and
ad/spyware, much of which also is trojan-like. Because many third-party
services and startup items are not started in safe mode, this is a standard
recommendation if Microsoft Antispyware identifies something on your
machine, says it is cleaning it, but, in fact, doesn't succeed in doing
that. Usually cleaning in safe mode will succeed.

I ran a full scan in safe mode and it gives my machine a clean bill of
health. MSAS has yet to find anything on my machine!
