Microsoft AntiSpyware Error

Since friday I haven't been able to use Microsoft AntiSpyware, there's no
icon in the sytem tray and when I try to open it an error message says it has
encounted a problem and needs to close. I've tried to reinstall it but it
still won't work. I've also noticed some of my other anti-spyware products
are encountering the same promlem. Does anyone know of any issues or virus
that cause this.

There are a number of viruses that attempt to disable antivirus or
antispyware products as part of their activity. Before jumping to
conclusions, though, I'd do a scan to try to find out.

You might try the full scan at:

http://safety.live.com

This is Microsoft's online scanner--with their most up-to-date signatures.

I've run many different scan software but nothing has shown up. I've tried
to reinstall Microsoft AntiSpyware but keep getting the same error messages
when I try to run it just like I do with my other anti-spyware products. So
Something is definately wrong but I don't know what.

Has this changed?

One approach would be to do some software triage, using msconfig to
eliminate some startup items, and see if you can spot a software conflict.

For example, does it run properly in safe mode?

Can you post some of the error messages as accurately as possible? Maybe
there'll be some clues there. Besides Microsoft Antispyware, what other
applications are involved?
