Some folks are succeeding at fixing this one using information found in the
errors.log file in the folder where the program was installed.

If this isn't too large--see whether it references problems with any
specific *.OCX file.

Some have either re-registered, or downloaded and replaced specific OCX
files referenced in the errors.log file with salutary results.

I've just downloaded the latest version of this (Build 1.0.614) and like all
the others it just hangs when you press search for spyware. I can't
understand why Microsfot cant produce software like this that is compatible
with most pc's. This is the ONLY software on my machine that refuses to run.

Have you checked your machine for both viruses and spyware using other
tools? There is some spyware that can cause Microsoft Antispyware to hang,
but typically that happens part way through a scan, perhaps in the registry.

Clearly there's something wrong on your machine, and I'd like to help try to
figure out what it is, if possible. There have been more than 20 million
downloads of Microsoft Antispyware, so clearly it is working for most
people, or we'd be totally swamped here.

Your symptoms are completely different from the message that you attached
your reply to, so that connection isn't helpful--the two issues are
unrelated, I believe.

How many versions have you tried? Have you tried uninstalling the currently
in place version, deleting the files left in the installation folder, and
then reinstalling?
