Microsoft Access link to Sharepoint

I have been scouring the microsoft webpage, looking for a detailed
description of what capabilities Access has while being linked to sharepoint.
Maybe I missed the information, but microsoft seems painfully vague on the
topic. Can Sharepoint interact, such as inputting data while any preset data
maintaining limitations, with an Access database?

If I need to clarify, please let me know.

I have an employee training database that's manually filled out with each
training session. I looking to see if there was a way to have people "sign
up" for class on a sharepoint site that's linked to the database. What I'm
hoping is that the person can only modify the database by adding their name
as an expected attendee to a predetermined class, not able to change any
other information. In addition, should all of the class's 8 seats be filled,
I would like for the site to either block off the sign up, or notify the
person that it's full.

Any information regarding how to do this or whether this is possible are
much appreciated.
