microphone voicie recording

Hello,
I'm trying to record voice through microphone using
software like SoundForge and Gold Wave but the meter
reads too high. The playback is consequently distorted.
I tried adjusting microphone volume and that just won't
do it. Any ideas?

Don't hold the microphone so close to your mouth?

Turn off the microphone boost option. You'll find it in the microphone/advanced
section of the mixer.
