microphone problem

What gives... I set up my microphone and XP didn't
recognize any new hardware. In fact, mic and speaker
settings are on and functional and this mic doesn't work.
Any ideas here?

Where are they connected? Sound card or USB?

Have the same problem connecting via soundcard in my Dell laptop.
Although it works fine on my mates PC.

About to be a USB mic to see if that works any better.
