Microphone not Detected on Windows Vista

I am having problems with my computer not detecting my mic, my speakers are
conencted and work fine and the mic has been tested on other computers and is
working fine on those. Having a look at other problems on this forum I
beleive I may need to update my drivers. I have an Asus Motherboard and the
Audio driver version is 6.0.6000.16386 driver date 21/06/2006. I have had a
look at the Asus website and found an Audio driver update for 2/2/2007.
Would this be the correct thing to do and how do I go about installing the
drivers.

Thanks

First go to Control Panel > Sound > Recording and make sure the proper
microphone (front or rear) is designated as the default recording
device. If not, right-click it, and make it the default. Then go to the
microphone's Properties > Levels and make sure that the mic's volume is
turned up.

Daze,

When I go to Control Panel > Sounds > recording there is nothing under this
tab at all to select. I have also gone through the microphone wizard and I
get the following error message: Make sure your audio hardware is working
properly and check your audio configuration in the audio devices and sound
themes control panel.

Then I'd try downloading and installing the driver you found, just so
it's for your version of Vista (x86 or x64). If that doesn't help, and
you still can't find the mic, you'll probably next need to invest in an
inexpensive Vista-ready sound card and hope that works for you.

Have you right clicked on the Sounds,
Recording screen and selected both
Show disabled devices and show
disconnected devices?

That's another good idea that I'd forgotten about suggesting.

Thanks for the help, I ended up updating the Audio drivers and now everything
seems to be going good, I can now use the mic.

Thanks again for the help.
