Microphone issues

A headphone/mic combo which I've been using now will not record sound from
the mic, but will play in the headphones.
Have checked all the usual suspects, but the mic seems 2 be enabled.

Also, it was working fine a couple of months ago, and I cant think of
anything I've changed.

Any ideas?

I've got the same problem and I've tried all the crap that is on the
microsoft website. I think it may have something to do with a windows update.
I get an error message with a code of 0x80004005 since the last windows
update and I've never had that before.
