microphone, already in use

when i try to use my microphone whether it be with sound recorder or with
messenger it comes up with a box saying its being used somewhere else, and i
have no clue where or how to sort it
 
CtrL+alt+delete and check your running tasks, see if closeing a few of those
down helps.
