Mice and other Pointing Devices is missing from Device Manager!

I WAS researching a problem where my PC (P4 1.8, D845PESV) was claiming
it was overheating and shutting down because of it, even though this
doesn't appear to be the real case, which led me to flash my BIOS with
Microsofts Intel® Express BIOS update [SVAP09EB.EXE] (1246KB).

After this completed successfully, my Mouse quit working.

At this point, I've researched the problem to the point where I NO
LONGER see the Device Manager listing for "Mice and Other Pointing
Devices", ie, it's GONE.

I was using a standard Microsoft Corporation IntelliMouse ps/2 1.1A.
I've installed IntelliPoint 5.5 (7.1 MB), but the drivers for any mouse
are not present still.

On my other machine runnning XP, I've found where this phrase is
located in the registry (CurrentControlSet, ControlSet001, and
ControlSet002), I've yet to check my registry on the machine with this
missing Input Device for the Mouse however.

What the heck happened, and how do I get this Device listing back so I
can use a Serial Mouse again? I do have 2 available USB slots, I'd
hate to use one permantently for a mouse however, unless this would
help bring back the entry into Device Manager.

Microsoft God's, please tell me how "Mice and other Pointing Devices"
could have possibly removed itself from the Hardware Device entry list
by simply flashing a BIOS, or anything else for that matter.

Anxiously awaiting help.

Thanks,

bd.

stop the whining.. from what I can remember the mouse entry does not
appear always on all kinds of mice in the device manager

on simple serial mice it does not appear

I see where build 15 states it "fixed the problem of loss of mouse
control after BIOS Updates", lol, unreal. Just a little blurb, nothing
TOO important, geesh.

At any rate, this is Build 17.

I didn't reset the MOBO CMOS jumper, as I've had success in the past
with the flash doing that task for me, etc.

However, perhaps I have to do this? I didn't get instructions, just
the exe DL (instructions don't come with all, I've since read as well).
Since I've re-booted many times without unplugging the power from the
MOBO and clearing the CMOS, waiting 10 Mins, etc, 'should' I re-flash
and do this process step by step?

Thanks,

bd

After resetting the CMOS using via the Jumper Configurations on the
Board, etc, and still not resulting in a resolution, I decided to go
back to the last PO8 build. All is now fine again, now I just have to
figure out those thermal events that aren't caused by the BIOS, at
least I learned that much.
