MHT files not seen as thumbnails....

Kenny S

I cannot see mht files as thumbnails, as I could in the past.

I have added the following to the registry but it did not help

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mht\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mht\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mhtml\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mhtml\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"

any ideas?

THANKS

That does not work because what you've added is a video thumbnail generator
({c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590})

Set the (default) to {EAB841A0-9550-11CF-8C16-00805F1408F3}

You are so right! thank you very much!

thanks

PDF thumbnails work fine here (Using Acrobat Reader 7) using Adobe's
pdfshell.dll. See if you can find any info in Adobe forums:
http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/[email protected]@.3bb84c12

For Office documents, this KB has some info. See if that helps.

Thumbnails of Office 2003 documents do not appear in Windows 2000 Explorer:

I did this (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=838877) , and looked around
google for a solution, I even reinstalled office 2003 but
I still cannot see thumbnails of office documents!
That article is about win2k, perhaps they have removed this functionality in
windows explorer XP?

Strange..... I seem to remember that I could see thumbs of .doc files

Yes, that might be the case, but I'm not very sure. Here is an additional
point from the MSDN Mag:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/0600/w2kui2/

Which says:

" Notice that Office documents can be previewed only if they've been saved
with an embedded preview picture. (There's a specific checkbox in the
Properties dialog that enables this.) "

I remember it too - in XP and in previous versions of Windows. I think SP1
was the "when and where" that the preview for some document types was
dropped in XP. When I asked about it in one of the windowsxp newsgroups,
someone with MSFT in their posting name replied that this change was in
response to security concerns.

MVP Kelly Theriot has a small program on her XP Tweaks page that restores
thumbnail view in XP. Can't imagine this doing anything else than what
Ramesh has already recommended but you might want to give it a try. The
download link is on Line 17 on the right hand side:

I thought that office 2003 might have such an option, but I have not found
such a thing anyware on the program.

If you know where it is (if it exists), tell me.

Have you saved your .doc files with the 'preview' funtion active?

They wont show as a thumbnail unless you do? IE In my explorer only those
files that I specifically saved as with 'preview' will show.
