Messenger

I've been trying to track down how to remove MS Messenger from my system.
While I know there are many people who love it, I don't use it and I want it
totally removed from my system. So far, every time I take it off, it manages
to get reinstalled after a few months.

In doing research on the subject, I've seen references to de-selecting
messenger in Outlook. I have been utterly unable to find a way to do this. I
want to remove all references to Messenger in Outlook because I'm also having
a serious problem when Outlook starts up. I have a fast processor and 2GB of
RAM on my system. Still, it takes Outlook an average of five plus minutes to
come up each time I start it. I've read that if Messenger is enabled in
Outlook, but is not otherwise present on the system, this can cause
performance problems while Outlook searches for Messenger.

Any tips on how to permanently remove Messenger and how to deselect it in
Outlook will be most welcome.

What version of Outlook? Have you looke for it in tools, options, other tab?

Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Change or Remove Programs won't do it?
it does for me. If, instead of MSN Messenger, you mean Windows Messenger,
then Add or Remove Programs>Add/Remove Windows Compnents is the place to go.

So it's Windows Messenger and not MSN Messenger that's running. Why not
just delete (or rename) the %ProgramFiles%\Messenger folder so it can't be
found. msmsgs.exe is the WIndows Messenger executable. Also, use
Start>Run>msconfig to start the MS Config tool. Examine the Startup tab and
see if the messenger program appears in it. If so, note its registry key
(probably HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) and use
REGEDIT to remove its startup from the registry.

I have neither MS Messenger, nor Live Messenger in "Add/Remove programs", as
well. I do have: "Windows Live Messenger".
