Messenger v5 and SIP, Exchange Messenging

How do I prevent the additional window in Messenger 5 which requests me to
specify which of the three sevivces I wish to sign in with. I just use .Net
messenging service. Also, I prefer to sign in manually in order to manage som
privacy.
I can not find an easy way to return to version 4.7.3000 which didn't offer
this additional window.
What is SIP anyway? Would it be useful on a 2 PC network for LAN messages? I
just can't find any simple intoduction to it. I'm reasonably PC literate -
but not a full network buff!
Thanks

Greetings RW,

The easiest solution would be to return to 4.7.2009, which you can find here:

SIP is the Session Initiation Protocol. It's a standard that was developed
for Instant Messaging/Real Time Communication and the associated features
that go with it. Generally a SIP server is used in a corporate environment
to provide secure Instant Messaging, presence awareness, etc. MSN, AOL, and
ICQ use proprietary protocols, if memory serves me correctly.

Several vendors have SIP servers out, including Microsoft. Microsoft's
product is called Microsoft Office Live Communications Server. The current
version is LCS 2003. LCS 2005 has been released to manufacturing and is set
to hit the distribution channel on or around December the 1st.
