Messenger Sign- In Troubles

I seem to be having troubles with Windows Live Messenger on my vista machine.
I haven't added any programs to my machine as of late and messenger was
working fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling messenger. I told it
to forget my profile and put the info in no luck. Then I tested the
connection with the TCP tool and it said it could connect to the windows live
server. Out of curiosity I signed in with the web version it signed in fine.
Then I tried to sign in with my PC it signed me out on the web version saying
I had signed in at another location. The only error I seem to be seeing is
81000312 which according to a site is a logoff. I have noticed if I tell it
to sign on it just keeps trying to sign in and returns no error the little
heads just keep spinning for what seems forever. I added the messenger
programs to the firewall still no luck Help!

Hi,

Just trying to help.

Do you have Zone Alarm 6.5 installed? If so, it is the cause.

I recently "tried" to move to Zone Alarm from NIS (ok, I know many people
hate it) after reading years of people complimenting how nice it is, well,
it doesn't work for me.

And I know it has compatibility problem with Live Messenger as I experienced
it and also found many related posts in their forum but all without any
solutions and said "it is MS bugs".

In any case, I removed Zone Alarm and installed NIS 2007 and the Live
Messenger is back to alive.

After using it for a week, I am qualified to say, it is no better than NIS
if not worse :)

Live messenger has it's "off times" I have found. One day it will be a dandy,
one day it will be s deusey. It goes back and forth. I think they have been
doing updated on the live messenger servers or something. If it has been
working fine until now, give it a day or two and try again.
