Messenger Service

How can I turn this Messenger service off. It's more annoying that pop up
ads. I'll remove every component and registry key I have to to stop this.
They are constantly poping up.

Start | Run | services.msc | Enter

find messenger, set to disabled.

Or, better, install SP2 +all critical updates and enable XP Firewall.

The fact that you are getting these messenger service adds is doing you
a favor. It's telling you you're system is open to the internet.
Install a firewall instead of turning off the messenger service.

I'm not sure how to install SP2. I have SP1.

I think you have some ugly spyware installed. If you have junk such as
Aurora, it can often be incredibly difficult to remove. I wouldn't
think of upgrading to SP2 until you get rid of this crapware first.
Spyware and viruses are a common cause of the failure of sp2 to
install properly.

Have you tried any of the free spyware/adware scanners such as AdAware
or Spybot. Often they can help clear out this junk. I'd recommend
using both of them, rebooting and re-scanning again until the
infections are gone. If that doesn't work, you may need to go into the
Safe Mode to accomplish this.

If none of this works, consider doing a repair or reinstall of
Windows. Then, upgrade to sp2 as soon as possible... sp2 will be on
the Windows Update site and you can install it from there (you should
have an icon for this in All Programs).

I've tried lavasoft's adaware. But this spyware changes so much I don't
know how up to date it is. I don't see an icon on the all programs bar to
upgrade to SP2 and I have all of SP1's patches installed.

All these anti-spyware programs have an update function to get new
definitions... just like an anti-virus program. They're often updated
weekly, so the odds are that they're as up-to-date as needed to get
most of this junk.
