Messenger Issue

I have WinXP Home - I had been running Messenger 4.7. Today I installed
Messenger 6.2 but I still see taskbar icon for the old messenger in addition
to new one.

Also, when I open Outlook the Messenger 4.7 Icon appears in taskbar. How do
I completely remove this?? I've tried removing Messenger from Windows
programs but still no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

To Prevent Windows Messenger from Running on a Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302089&Product=WinMsgr

When you do this your Windows Messenger won't show up in your taskbar
anymore

However if you want to completely remove/uninstall Windows Messenger from
Windows XP can be found at this website made by Jonathan Kay.
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7

Follow the steps and the pictures that the website has and you shouldn't
have anymore problems. Uninstalling Windows Messenger can disable some of
the messenger features such as Whiteboard Sharing, and others on MSN
Messenger if you're using that.

first, lets get one thing straight, there are two
messengers: windows messenger is a messenger that looks
similar and works similar to MSN messenger. windows
messenger was install when you install your Windows XP.
You're not really doing an upgrade to version 6.2. The
latest version of windows messenger is 4.7 but the latest
version of MSN messenger is 6.2. Therefore you are running
two different messengers. If you have no other purposes of
using two messengers, you should uninstall one of them.
Uninstalling windows messenger is a harder process than
uninstalling MSN messenger. If you want to uninstall MSN
messenger, you can just go to "add/remove" programs but if
you want to uninstall windows messenger then go here:

us;302089

Good luck.
