messed up XP fax i think

i have XP home sp2 and i just started to try and use the fax option.
when i used setup fax in printers and faxes the installation program kept
coming back with DLL's missing from my PC and XP disk, i carried on with the
install by trying to install and then missing the DLL's out that i didnt seem
to have and now fax apperars in P and Fs but gives a error message saying the
printer is not connected to a server and dissapears.
In add/remove windows components, the program seems to install but the fax
services box is never ticked, like its not installing right.

things that may have affected this are that my gateway modem was using an MS
driver rather than the gateway one which i have resolved back to proper
gateway driver.

i tried doing a system restore to yesterday but that didnt make any difference
now when i go into accessories>comms>fax the box come back with empty ie no
fax console

how can i solve this so the XPfax works?

2. Why can't the XP Fax Installation Program find the Installation Files?

This sounds like Security Database corruption, please check the KB article
referenced in the FAQ section above.
