Messed up User Profiles?

In my Docuements and Settings folder there are about 9 folders with names like:
Local Users.NT AUTHORITY.000
Default User. WINDOWS

I assume these folders are related to "Profiles".

I've tried deleting these folders in Win Explorer, but it won't let me. I
also tried deleting the related folders in the Registry (an article at
jsiinc.com identified them for me), but they came back and new profile
folders were added in the Documents and Settings folder.

I'm the only user of my system and I have administrative rights?

I know a normal looking XP Home SP2 setup should have folders something
like this in Documents and Settings:
All Users
Default User (hidden folder)
my name

How can I make my Documents and Settings folders look normal?
I'm having lots of problems with system freeze ups and Access Denied
Problems; would fixing my Profiles help here?

Btw, when I enter User Accounts in Control Panel, there is only my profile
(as Administrator ) and a Guest Profile (which is "turned off").

thanks for any help.

Leave these folders alone. The duplicates come from Windows
reinstallations or System restorations.

thanks for the response.

Does that mean these folders won't go away if I do a "clean install"?

No. If you wipe out all files before, the folders are lost also, of
course. If you install Windows clean intom a new folder, these folders
will no longer be used and can be deleted. You will have to reinstall
your applications into the new Windows installation, however.
