* Messanger and Outlook express *

Kumaran

Dear Users,
I'm using Win XP Professional. I have disabled the Messenger service, But
when ever, I start
Outlook Express, Messenger also starts automatically. If I try to close the
Messenger, it says, can't be closed, since one of the associated program is
running...like Outlook express, Internet explorer.
Is there any way to prevent the Messenger from starting automatically along
with Outlook Express.

Thanks

Regards
Kumaran

First of all, go to Control panel-Add/Remove Programs- Add/remove Windows
Components and un-install Windows Messenger. This is NOT the same as
disabling the messenger service.
Then in OE go to Tools-Options-General and uncheck "Log on to messenger
automatically"

Hi Kumaran,

Windows Messenger is way different from the Messenger service. To un-install
windows Messenger, type the following exactly at Start >> Run and press
enter:

rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection BLC.Remove 128
%systemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf

Surely Control Panel-Add/remove programs-Add/remove Windows
Components-uncheck Windows messenger-click apply is MUCH MUCH easier?

Run REGEDIT.EXE and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Insert a new
DWORD entry
Hide Messenger
here and set it to a value of
2

messenger service is NOT the same as Windows messenger.

Indeed. But Messenger service does not start with OE, so Windows
Messenger is meant here.

Hi,

Read the description that follows with it: "Adds or Removes access to
Windows Messenger from the Start menu." So actually the shortcuts etc are
removed from the start menu but Windows messenger is actually not
un-installed. To uninstall windows messenger, the mentioned command should
be used.

Do not all those suggestions.
Simply go to your folder dirctory and rename the messenger folder. Simply
rename it all one word
MessenerOff that will do it..

Hi Kumaran, I think you have to go to Outlook Express go
to TOOLS then OPTIONS then GENERAL tab and make
sure "automatically log on to Windows Messenger" is NOT
checked. That hopefully will solve your problem. GIPPY
