when I wish to subscribe to a news group I receive the following message:
server cannot be found

Who's your isp? They should have a support link off their home page
that will show you how to set up the news server within OE. (Microsoft
Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2869) This changes for each isp since there's
no telling what service they use. cox.net, e.g., has Newsgroups support
here:

It's also possible the newsgroup you requested isn't on their servers.
The same support page has a link "How to: Request a Newsgroup".
