Message tracking in outlook question

Hello,
If I turn on message tracking in my outlook for read receipts and delivered
receipts; will this only work on Exchange systems? For example if I send an
email to someone who does not use Exchange or Outlook, will I still get the
message tracking?

yes, if their server supports delivery receipts and their mail program
supports read receipts.
