Not the regular READ RECEIPT question

P

PanGrande

I have read every post and answer that I could find on the subject but it all
seems to refer to internet mail and Outlook 200-2003, however, in Outlook
2007 is there a way, on the client side, to turn OFF sending read receipts
when both sender and recipient are in the same domain/exchange server?

Is this even configurable on the exchange server side?

Clearly Tools/Options/E-mail options/Tracking options only prevents read
receipt for internet mail.

I am beginning to question my technical acumen.

Thanks

Diane thanks for the reply.

Just to be clear, I do not need to differentiate between internal and
external. Also, this is not a question of me wanting to request a receipt.

I do not want anyone to know when I read my email. The setting to never send
a receipt is for internet mail only. I cannot seem to stop those receipts for
internal mail. My exchange admin also has no idea how to do this.

In Outlook 2007, the Tracking options applies to both internal and external
email. No, you can't turn it off internally and leave them on externally -
Exchange server can be configured to allow only internally, not externally.
That isn't what you want though.

You could use rules to enable them for external mail. Create an after
sending rule, sent to @, notify me when read.
You use the @ because internal addresses don't have an @ in them... add the
@ to the rule following the steps at
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/rules.htm.

Ah. In older versions the setting was for external mail only, which can be
blocked at the server. The setting should prevent both internal and
external receipts in Outlook 2003 and 2007.

In Outlook '07, the option to never SEND a read request is for internet mail
ONLY. If a colleague of mine (in my domain) sends me an email and REQUESTS a
read receipt, I cannot prevent that receipt from going.

Is there any way to prevent a read receipt in Outlook '2007 for ALL mail
(not just internet mail accounts)?

As it stands now, if you and I work for the same company and are both
@thesamedomain then I can not stop you from knowing when I read your email.

Is this true? Has anyone successfully stopped internally generated read
receipts?

I must remember not to trust my memory. :) After pulling up my notes from a
discussion about RR with Microsoft many years ago - they added the option
for 'internet mail only' and you couldn't block them at all in corp mode.
Their feeling was corporate didn't want users disabling it for internal
exchange mail.

There is not a native feature in Outlook to remove receipts - there used to
be an add-in (watch your back) but its no longer available and I don't
recall any other addins. AFAIK, the admin can't disable it on Exchange for
internal mail either, only for internet mail, unless they install an event
sink. See http://www.ivasoft.biz/rrr.shtml.

Yes -
internal mail either, only for internet mail, unless they install an event
sink. See http://www.ivasoft.biz/rrr.shtml.

Convincing the admin to do this is the problem - they are unlikely to do it
for anyone except the guy who writes the check.

Can I get some clarification on what a 'sink' is? I am assuming it is some
sort of black hole that receipts go into.

I actually was working on an idea where i created a rule that forwarded all
internal email to an internet email account and then would have that account
forward it back. This way I could block the RR as internet mail.

Thought it was quite brilliant (other than all the double mail). Problem was
that my rule that forwarded the mail never actually worked. Never was able to
forward to a (e-mail address removed) address.

Hey, I am desperate. I am getting sick of people knowing what I do and when
I do it.
