Message Rule Question, Again

J

JamesJ

I've been attempting to send messages with a particular word
in the 'From' field to the Deleted Items Folder. Although Windows Mail
allows
me to create a rule for this it never puts these messages into the Deleted
Items Folder.
Am I missing something??

Thanks,
James

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'Pfizer' or 'Lilly'
and Where the Subject line contains 'Pfizer' or 'Lilly'
Move it to the Deleted Items folder
and Stop processing more rules

Hard to say without us seeing your complete message rule.

I would make that an "OR" instead of "AND"
or make 2 rules.

I can't seem to be able to change the "or" to "and" in the rule.
Might have to create 2 rules.

You've made the rule too restrictive.
The "and Where" should be "or Where".

G

Open that message rule and click on the blue underlined 'and'.
It will then give you an option to change it to 'or'.

I've created 2 rules now one for each word and eliminated
the Subject line. It seems to be working fine now
One more question. Should I use the 'Stop processing more rules'
on one rule or both?

James

You've made the rule too restrictive.
The "and Where" should be "or Where".

G

Use "Stop processing" for both rules.
However, it is more efficient to have one combined rule.

J

JamesJ

Thanks. I'll try to combine the rules

It's not allowing me to change only the "and" or "or".
It only allows me to add a new word to the rule.
I must be missing soimething.

Go to Tools, Message Rules, Mail, select that rule, then click
Modify. In the third box you should see some blue underlined
words, one of those being 'and'. Click on that. The next window
that pops up allows you to change it.

I've been doing that. The link is "contains Pfizer or Lilly"
When I click the link the next window only allows me to add a word
to the rule. The window allows me to remove a word in the second text
box alo but does not allow me to change the "OR"

The condition I'm using is 'Where the From line contains people'
I found no condition checking the From line for words so I used
the next best thing.

A collection of words like "Pfizer" or "Lilly" should always be
joined by 'or', and I don't think you can change it.

However, the 'and' that we were talking about before
occurs when joining multiple conditions, such as:

Where the From line contains 'Pfizer' or 'Lilly'
AND Where the Subject line contains 'Pfizer' or 'Lilly'

The 'and' (which I have capitalized above for emphasis) is the
one that is capable of being switched between 'and' and 'or'.
For maximum effectiveness, conditions like that one should be
joined by 'or'.

I believe I got it now.
The rule(s) is working and sending the desired messages to
my Deleted Items Folder.

Thanks much,
James
