message end ccapp application when shutting down

Being a novice I have yet to discover how to make my computer run
efficiently, I have been having problems with a slow running computer. I have
norton software installed and have recently run a clean up on my system (disk
fragmentation and everything), in addition to scanning for malicious
software.... Nothing detected, however the system is slow to start up, and
when I try to shutdown, there appears a ccapp application message telling me
a programme is ending now! however all programs were shutdown properly! So
question???? Is this normal??? Is it a virus, conflict, spywar, adware?
Please help and be gentle I have a limited knowledge of computers, but would
like to learn more! many thanks

The Norton software is itself the cause for the slow bootup. The
CCapp (Common Client Application) is another piece of Norton
software with a history of issues.

If your desire is to have a lean/efficient PC setup, then using any
Norton home product is going to work against you.

There are other/better/cheaper Security applications you can use.

Slowly over the last year or so the public has begun to realize the
fact that Symantec's home product line is lacking. Their (Symantec)
glory days are long gone as a recent layoff of staff to improve their
"Bottom Line" illustrates.

thanks for your reply, I must say I have wondered whether this was the cause,
I wonder if you could recommend a better alternative. many thanks. L K S

Personally, I use NOD32 for Anti-Virus protection and Zone Alarm
Free (Version 7). NOD32 costs around ~$39 for a single PC license.
Many folks prefer a free AV such as AVG Free or Avast.

NOD32 offers a 30-day trial:

The only issue you may have is uninstalling Norton. It's never a 100%
clean process and almost universally leaves remnants behind on a PC.
It's almost harder to remove than the Viruses/Trojans it's meant to
protect you against.

If looking for freeware i'd suggest a 'zonealarm' firewall with 'AVG
antivirus' . It works for me. R.McCarty is right about norton, i used to
have it myself, its software is ok for business where they got lots of
software/technician support. the home alone stuff however, is overly slow and
complex for single user pc's. good luck

Here are some good alternatives, some of which are free. Anti-Virus: Avast
(free), AVG (free), NOD32; Firewall (all free): Sunbelt Software Kerio
Personal Firewall, Comodo Personal Firewall, Zone Alarm; Anti-Malware (all
free): Ad-Aware SE Personal, SpyBot S&D, Windows Defender, BHO Demon,
Spyware Blaster, HijackThis.

On one installation I use Kerio Personal Firewall and Avast which works
fine. On another it's AVG and Comodo (testing these) which seem to work
fine too.

The hard part you'll have is removing all vestiges of Norton.
