"Message could not be displayed"

J

James Bailey

I have two emails that have the following error:

Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

I can't delete the messages or do anything with them. I've repeatedly tried
running "esentutl /p" without success. Any ideas?

Ignore them. There is a mismatch in the database that isn't clearing, and
unless its blocking functionality you just have to live with it. It may go
away eventually.

You can delete the msmessagestore file, but that will kill the present
database, but not the messages.

I have the same error, but my message is in the outbox and now I can't send
any mails.... So I can't ignore the error.

I've tried to compact, repair and delete msmessagestore -no success.

What should I do?

Delete the msmessagestore file and the file in the \backup directory and
then open WinMail and see if that starts it fresh. Also go to the \local
folders\outbox directory and delete all the files in it.

I solved the problem:

I renamed the whole "Windows Mail" dir to "Windows Mail Old", deleted
everything except the Local Folders, started Windows Mail and imported
Messages (Windows Mail 7) from the Old Dir... Not so elegant but it works

Okay. I guess we are stuck with that. At least the Import worked and you
didn't have to open each and drag the files from each.

I'd like to break mine so I could figure it out.

Arne, I have just purchased my NEW computer with Vista and I was able to set
up my email address via windows mail. I was able to receive my emails and
the next day I click on windows mail and received the exact same error as you
are stating that you had. In my window pane it states that Windows Mail
could not open this folder possible causes are: 1)low disk space. or 2) low
memory.
Can someone give this NONE computer literate person some help or directions.
I am very good at following directions in fixing this problem.

Make sure you have antivirus software not set to scan email. You will have
to look in the antivirus software options and disable that. See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 the same applies to WinMail.

Then see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't then try my WMUtil
program to compact and repair the database and see if that fixes it. See
www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

If that doesn't fix it then from my WMUtil program you can see the path to
the directory where the message store is. Rename that path from Windows
Mail to Windows Mail Old in Windows Explorer. Then restart WinMail and you
can then get the messages back by importing from the Old folder.
