Hi
Both Messenger 4.7 and version 6.1 are on my computer. It is the old version
that load first.
How can I get rid of the old version 4.7 ?

If you really want to go ahead and remove Windows Messenger, just close down
Messenger (right
click the messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click
close). Then click
the start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click OK. Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed

Greetings Pieter,

You can completely remove Windows Messenger, but if you do, you will be preventing Remote
Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any other applications that utilize Messenger
from working (or loading without problems). Instead (and this should solve your problem),
you should simply disable it. To do so, open it up, click Tools, Options, Preferences tab
and unchecking 'Run this Program when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows
starts' (depending on version). As well, you can disable it further by going to Start,
Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components on the left, uncheck
Windows Messenger in the components list and click Next >. Note: this is only available if
you've installed Windows XP Service Pack 1 -- if you haven't, visit
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. This won't remove Windows Messenger, but it will let it
stay out of your way.

However, if you really want to remove it completely, for Windows Messenger 4.7, close down
Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon in the notification area/system
tray and click close). Then click the start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste
if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,

Johnathan,

Thanks for the tip on removing messenger 4.7. However,
what do I do about the fact that it keeps reloading on my
system, regardless of how many times I remove it. I even
did the registry entry someone else suggested to keep it
from asking me if I wantged to update. How can it keep
reloading itself?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I´m trying to remove it completely from this computer here and I
can´t do it! The problem is it is not my computer, but now when
messenger loads it goes straight to my account without asking for
passwords or anything. I can´t change the preferences and even by
uninstalling I can´t make it all go away. I mean, if anyone downloads
it again an installs it, it automatically logs into my account. So the
unistall with "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" does not delete other info related
to the program. What the hell is up with this!!!
